Hi There! My name is May Anne Jordens-LaFlamme. 

I’m a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, the owner of Wellness with May Anne and the In-House Nutritionist at Peterborough Maximized Living.  

I’m also a busy mom, a wife and an entrepreneur, and trust me - I know how difficult it can be to balance the busyness of life with health, good nutrition and fitness!  

You see, for the first five years of my sons' life I was a single mom who was working full-time, with a lot of self-pressure added to the mix.  

I struggled with taking care of my own needs because it always seemed like there was a lot to be done and there was so much to be resonsible for.  

Long story short, I ended up with burned out adrenals, IBS, candida overgrowth, anxiety and depression (all caused by stress). 

Everyday around 2pm I felt like crawling under my desk for a nap and I craved sweets and starches to 'wake me up.'

I hated how I was looking and feeling and felt like life was passing me by. 

I was too exhausted at the end of the day to put much effort into cooking and was mostly choosing foods based on convenience, even though deep inside I really wanted to eat healthier. 

On top of that, I witnessed the life-long struggle of a loved one trying diet after diet for years, with only temporary results. Ultimately, I developed a distorted body image and a love-hate relationship with food.


It was engrained in my mind that to look good, I had to eat as little as possible, choose 'diet' foods (lite, low fat, low-calorie...you get the idea) and basically - that food was the enemy. Food-guilt seemed to be a normal part of life (if it tastes really good you must have to feel bad about it afterwards, right?!)

Little did I realize with my food choices, even though I had good intentions and thought I was doing right by my body, I was creating the perfect storm for a blood sugar imbalance by cutting out the very foods that would keep my energy levels up, keep me fuller, longer, curb the cravings and keep my hormones and my mood balanced. 


When I began studying natural nutrition, I realized why everything that I had been doing was not working for me.


You see, there were a few layers to my problem. 

  • The first part of the problem actually lied in my food choices (what/how & when I ate) and the effect that they were having on my blood sugar balance. It's no wonder my willpower was not enough to say no to my cravings!!
  • The second part of my problem was realizing that I couldn't pour from an empty cup, and that I was no good to myself or anyone around me if I putting myself last and not taking the time to fill my own cup. 
  • The third part was that food wasn't actually the enemy - my faulty thinking was. I love food, and that's ok. What I needed to figure out was how to make it work WITH me instead of AGAINST me. 


By making a commitment to changing how I ate, making the necessary Lifestyle changes (stress, sleep & exercise) and shifting my Mindset, I was able to minimize my cravings for things like sweets and pizza, had WAY more energy and felt healthier than I had in years. I was able to maintain a weight I felt comfortable with - all without diet foods. 


Now, I look and feel better than I did in my 20’s and 30’s. I'm a happier and better person to those around me and I'm so grateful to have found the strategies to get me unstuck, without restricting myself of everything that tastes good!

FAQ's

When does the course start and finish?  

We are going to start on January 21st! Each week for 6 weeks you will receive an email from me with the meal plan, grocery list, food swap list, recipe book and educational handout for the week. I will send the email 3-4 days ahead of time, so you have time to grocery shop for the following week’s groceries.  

I don’t necessarily want to lose weight. Will this program still benefit me?  

Absolutely! There are MANY health benefits from being on the program, aside from weight loss: Mindset & Lifestyle modules, Ramp up metabolism, Decrease PMS and menopausal symptoms, Support the cardiovascular system, Support digestive system complaints, Improve bowel function, Reduce Stress, Balance Mood, and much more!  

The portion sizes can simply be increased in respect to each other as needed.  


Do I have to shop at specialty health stores?  

No way. You can find all of these foods at your local grocery store.  


What kind of foods will I be eating?  

Honestly- regular food like meats, fish, veggies, avocados, fruit, etc. (even dark chocolate is on the meal plan!) When I say this program is not a ‘diet’ I mean it! The foods you eat on this program are normal foods that you can continue eating long after the program is finished.  


Will I be hungy?  

Not on this program! I provide the caloric breakdown and nutrient breakdown for each meal as a guideline, however, we are all unique and have different activity levels and physiology. If you are hungry (and not just wanting to eat out of habit), I encourage you to increase your portion sizes.  

 

What if I’m vegetarian/gluten-free/dairy-free?  

If you’re vegetarian, just let me know, and I will send you a vegetarian version of the meal plans and recipe book. A great feature of the program is a “Food Swap List” which includes PLENTY of substitutions for you to swap out to accommodate likes/dislikes or preferences. 

 This program is for the most part gluten-free and dairy-free, with the exception being some of the foods on the Food Swap list. If you have questions regarding specific foods, just ask me!  

 

Can't I just learn to eat better on my own?  

Yes! You certainly could - there are a lot of choices out there for you to try.  

  • You could buy cookbooks. Some of these are great. The downside is there won't be anyone to answer your questions about making the recipes, so you know you're doing it right and not wasting your time.  
  • You could watch cooking shows. These are great! Remember: Cooking shows are there to entertain you, not to fit food into your schedule or provide you with meal plans and grocery lists.  
  • You could attend live cooking classes. These are great fun! Unfortunately, you can't reference them later. Plus, for a hefty sum of money, you may learn how to cook one or two meals, which may not support your weight loss and health goals.
